The Dodgers are once again in first place as they defeated the Milwaukee Brewers last night on a walk-off home run by Yasmani Grandal.

The Dodgers are tied in first with the Arizona Diamondbacks after a 6-4 win in ten innings last night.  Yasmani Grandal has been red hot and he continued to sizzle blasting two home runs including his walk-off two-run home run. The Dodger offense appeared to be mired in its slump as they were no-hit through four innings but the offense finally got off the mat in the fifth inning scoring two runs.

After taking a 4-2 lead the Brewers tied the game at four in the eighth inning off Scott Alexander and threatened to take the lead before being induced into an inning-ending double play.  The Dodgers will wrap up their four-game series with the Brewers tonight before welcoming the Astros to town for a weekend series.

Other news…

  • Yasmani Grandal is having quite the contract season as he now has nineteen home runs on the season and is showing no signs of slowing down.  Grandal hit .364 with six home runs in July and got off to a quick start in August blasting two home runs on the first day of the month.  Grandal is known to fade in the second half of the season so it will be interesting to watch what he does in his contract year.
  • Brian Dozier made his first start as a Dodger last night and he wasted no time making an impact as he went 3-4 with a home run and finished a triple shy of the cycle.  Dozier showed the kind of offensive impact he could have on the Dodgers and why the front office added him to a team that already had plenty of offensive weapons.  Although Dave Roberts said Dozier will not play “every day”, that could change if Dozier gets off to a strong start in Dodger blue.

    More from LA Dodgers News

Justin Turner is set to return from the disabled list today, and he will start tonight’s game against the Brewers.  Turner’s return will force a roster crunch as Manny Machado will shift over to shortstop and Chris Taylor will now be displaced unless he starts in the outfield or fills in on the infield.  The Dodgers will also have to make a tough roster move and it will likely involve a position player as the club will not go down to six relievers with a six-man rotation.  Max Muncy to Triple-A or Chase Utley to the DL could be one possible move.

Matt Kemp is in the middle of a rough slump hitting just .042 with zero home runs in the last seven games.  Kemp did start the game-winning rally last night though as he battled in his at-bat and got on base via a single before Yasmani Grandal’s game winning home run.  Hopefully ,this will kick start Kemp and get him going as he was one of the club’s best hitters the first half of the season.

    • In minor league moves, Drew Hutchinson opted out of his minor league deal with the Dodgers and is now a free agent.  The Dodgers also promoted Gavin Lux to Double-A Tulsa and Will Smith to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
