Favorable Schedule

Perhaps the biggest reason that the Dodgers can still win the NL West is that they have everything still in front of them.  The Dodgers play the Diamondbacks for four games next weekend and they still have three games left with the Dbacks after next weekend’s four-game series.

The Rockies are also ahead of the Dodgers but the Dodgers play them for six games in September.  Even if the Dodgers were to get involved in the wildcard hunt, they play the Cardinals for four games who currently host one of the wildcard spots.  The easier method to the playoffs is still the division since there are only two teams ahead of the Dodgers though.

Besides chasing the two teams ahead of them, the Dodgers also play the Mets, Reds, and Padres who are all in last place in their divisions.  The last weekend of the season the Dodgers play the Giants who will be playing for nothing, and they already announced Buster Posey is out for the season.

Outside of the Cardinals, Dbacks, and Rockies, the Dodgers do not play another winning team the rest of the season.  This sets the Dodgers up for a very strong September if they are finally able to play to their potential.
