Jacob Rudner- Max Muncy
Muncy had an unbelievable year that exceeded even the wildest of expectations. Muncy hit 35 of the Dodgers 235 home runs this year, good for the fourth most homers in the National League. Muncy lead the major leagues in ISO at .319, .003 points better than the second-best player in the league, Mike Trout. Without Muncy, I am almost positive the Dodgers would not have gotten as far as they did.
Hector Ponce- Justin Turner
The key word here is valuable. This team was lost before Turner arrived back from injury. He may not have had the best season on the team but he was the most valuable to this team’s success. The Dodgers were 59-35 in games Turner started. He also led the team in bWAR (4.5). Even with a spectacular season from Max Muncy, it would have been hard to see the Dodgers make the playoffs without Justin Turner.
Megan Garcia- Max Muncy
A player designated by the Oakland A’s and a year in the minors, Muncy was one of the top hitters in baseball. His home run per at-bat ratio was the best in the league and the Dodgers relied on his bat to keep them relevant in the standings.
Sean Coghlan- Max Muncy
A year ago, Max Muncy was out of the major league after just two short years in Oakland. His comeback, centered around his changed swing, fit right in with the Dodgers’ plan for the year: swing up and swing hard. His team-leading 35 home runs mainly came with the bases empty – 24 of them to be exact. Muncy was tied for second in WAR on the team (4.2) and his instant offense saved the Dodgers multiple times.
Jake Matthews- Justin Turner
The simple truth is that the Dodgers play different baseball with Justin Turner in the line-up. Even when he’s not carrying the team on his back, his presence alone has an impact. Matt Kemp and Max Muncy kept them alive until Turner could get back into the game, but Turner gets the nod for MVP.
Nate Eckert- Justin Turner
Justin Turner’s presence in the Dodgers’ lineup is felt immediately whenever he’s away from baseball. The Dodgers were a different team after he came back from his fractured wrist. He brings so many things other than simply performing. And the team fully benefits from Turner plainly being around the everyday guys.
