Seth Lugo – New York Mets

More from LA Dodgers News

The Dodgers love versatility and if they were to acquire Mets’ reliever Seth Lugo, they would get a pitcher who is capable of pitching multiple innings as a swingman or pitching at the back end of games.  With Ross Stripling and Alex Wood candidates to be dealt, Lugo could fill the Ross Stripling role in the bullpen and pitch at the back end of games when needed.

The Mets are another team headed in a new direction and Lugo is one of the better trade pieces after big names like Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard.  Lugo is 28 years old and under control for four more seasons like Leclerc and Diaz.  He made a few starts this season but as a reliever, he posted a 2.30 ERA in 78 plus innings.

Seth Lugo is another reverse splits guy do the fact that he has some good offspeed offerings.  He won’t blow hitters away but he is equally effective with his arsenal.  Lugo held lefties to a .184 batting average last season and righties to a .245 average.  While Lugo is not a top-tier reliever like Edwin Diaz and Jose Leclerc he would still be a nice addition if the Dodgers sign a setup reliever this winter.

The Dodgers need to bolster their bullpen this winter if they want to avoid losing a third straight World Series next season.  To even make it back they need to be better as teams like the Cubs, Brewers, and Rockies will all look to give the Dodgers another run for their money in 2019.  With the front office’s preference to trade for relievers, these are three guys who they should try to acquire this winter.
