Francisco Cervelli

The Dodgers reportedly had interest in Cervelli at the winter meetings and a few rumors had Ross Stripling as a possible trade candidate for Cervelli.  That would certainly be one good move for the Dodgers to clear out some of their starting pitcher depth and acquire a catcher.  Cervelli will make 11.5 million dollars in 2019 before heading to free agency so the Pirates would certainly be interested in moving him to save some cash for other moves.

Cervelli hit .259 this past season with 12 home runs and post an OPS just above .800.  He does a good job getting on base and made just three errors in 2018.  Cervelli had eight passed balls which is not horrible so he would be a decent option to pair up with Austin Barnes.   For his career, Cervelli ranks 36th among active catchers with 23% of potential base stealers thrown out.  Cervelli remains one of the more acquirable catchers on the trade block.
