The rumor mill has gone quite as it does most offseasons about this time. Players, managers, GM’s and agents all take a week or so to themselves before resetting and getting back to the bargaining over contracts and trades. This goes for the Dodgers too, but, as we make our way through this quiet week, the Dodgers inch closer and closer to having to deal with a slew of rumors. Here is a reminder of everything going on.

The biggest and most talked about rumor of the bunch is anything and everything on Bryce Harper. Down to which pictures he is liking on Instagram, the oft-talked about outfielder has a lot to bring to the table should he land in LA. After trading away Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp, Alex Wood and Kyle Farmer, it appears the Dodgers are setting themselves up for a salary increase and while we do not know who they are making room for, the rumors of Bryce Harper favoring the Dodgers and the massive trade the team just made, make the Harper situation all the more real and worth following. Like Manny Machado, Bryce Harper could very well be waiting until after New Years to make his big announcement.

More rumors…

While not as massive as Harper, the Dodgers have been heavily linked to Indians ace, Corey Kluber in a trade that would bring the Cy Young candidate to Los Angeles. Kluber has been one of the game’s best pitchers since he entered the league and the Dodgers are trying to pair him with Clayton Kershaw on the same team. The rumors heated up after the team traded Puig to Cincinnati but, what is interesting, is Puig was originally thought to be the perfect piece to send to Cleveland for Kluber. Cleveland’s need for an outfielder could end in the Dodgers trading away Alex Verdugo or Joc Pederson but there have been no rumors of that nor has any trade been “close”.

More from Dodgers Way

  • In what is an odd set of rumors, the Dodgers have checked in on Nick Castellanos of the Tigers. As DodgersWay.com wrote, trading for Castellanos makes very little sense as the 26-year old Castellanos would be a man without a position in Los Angeles. However, the Indians have expressed interest in the Tigers’ right fielder/designated hitter. The Tigers’ obvious hesitancy to deal within the division has prevented that trade from happening thus the Dodgers can swoop in to trade for Castellanos and flip him for Kluber.
  • While the rumor has slowed down significantly, the Dodgers are still connected to second baseman, DJ LeMahieu. LeMahieu has spent the last seven seasons in Colorado, familiarizing himself with the rest of the NL West and even Dodger Stadium. While his numbers are not amazing away from Coors Fields, the 30-year old second baseman would prevent the Dodgers from using a platoon and could be a nice addition given that knowledge of the division.
