In an odd way, despite the complete lack of attachment between the Dodgers and Bryce Harper, I felt the need to make him the headline slide of this article. Why is that?

Primarily because I think Dodger fans really wanted Harper to happen but secondly, with Harper now reportedly connected to two other NL West teams, his news is incredibly relevant.

For those who did not hear about what I just said allow me to fill you in. San Diego, a team stacked with the best farm system in baseball and well ahead of their rebuild, has been in on just about every marquee free agent this offseason as well as any big trade rumors.

That list has included both Machado and Harper and has also included JT Realmuto and Corey Kluber on the trade fronts. The front office in San Diego clearly believes that with their unreal farm system and their ability to bring on a couple of superstars, they can contend for a title. Honestly, they probably could.

So Harper has met with San Diego and that has been established for a few weeks now. But, what has not been reported, and really needs to be, is Harper’s new connection with the San Francisco Giants.

It was reported that Harper met with a group of executives from San Fran, a group that included Farhan Zaidi and Bruce Bochy, to discuss a potential future in the Bay Area. San Francisco’s seriousness in the Harper race is yet to be clear. However, a trip to Las Vegas speaks volumes.

For now, the Dodgers are uninvolved and I would not be surprised to see things stay that way. But, while they won’t be getting him, it may not be far fetched to see him in the NL West.
