The man with the flowy hair and the big bat is easily first on my list. DJ Peters, the Dodger prospect most comparable to Giancarlo Stanton, quickly jumped into spring’s spotlight.

Peters has always been known for his high power high strikeout numbers. He’s boom or bust.

In 2018, Peters smashed a league-leading 29 home runs but struck out 192 times in just 491 at-bats. That’s astronomical.

If those trends keep up his best comparison to a major leaguer might be Joey Gallo rather than the former MVP, Stanton.

However, booming or busting, Peters really shined over the weekend.

On Saturday, the 23-year-old only saw one at-bat and didn’t do anything with it. However, in three at-bats on Sunday, Peters collected two hits, both of them homers.

The power in such a short sample size very quickly confirms what Peters is made of. He has a short, compacted swing, capable of hitting baseballs in comfortable zones in the strike zone. When pitchers pitch in on him, it was once a problem but Dave Roberts shared that the 6’6 outfielder has shortened his swing to get to inside pitches.

If his swing is indeed catered to getting to those tough pitches on the inner half of the zone, Peters could reduce those strikeout numbers to a more reasonable mark.

A big spring from him could easily put the young and powerful right fielder in Triple-A to start the year.
