The Dodgers announced the next step for Clayton Kershaw and set their preliminary minor league rosters for the start of the minor league season.

The Dodgers announced the next step for Clayton Kershaw and it will be a minor league start on Thursday for the Oklahoma City Dodgers.  Technically Kershaw will make an opening day start but it will not be the one he hoped for.

It is not yet known what the pitch or inning limit is for Clayton but going four to five innings or 60-70 pitches would be ideal given his lengthy bullpen sessions and simulated games.  It would not be surprising to see Kershaw return to the big league rotation after just one minor league start especially since Dave Roberts said that Julio Urias will go to the bullpen after one more start.

In the past, Clayton has tried to rush the process and hurt himself trying to rush back so as tempting as it will be to accelerate his return if he pitches well Thursday, the Dodgers should be very cautious.  The regular season is a marathon as we all know, and the long term approach is better than rushing Kershaw back to the big leagues.
