Oklahoma City Dodgers

The OKC Dodgers will once again serve as the depth pool when injuries strike the big league Dodgers.  Oklahoma City will be home to three of the Dodgers’ top ten prospects in Tony Gonsolin, Will Smith, and Dennis Santana.  They will also be home to minor league veterans like Paulo Orlando, Edwin Rios. and Matt Beaty.

Here are three prospects to watch in Oklahoma City:

More from Dodgers Prospects

Will Smith:  Not the actor, but one of the crown jewels of the Dodgers’ deep stock of catchers in the minor leagues.  Smith currently ranks as the Dodgers’ fifth prospect and will be a phone call away if an injury occurs to Austin Barnes or Russell Martin.  Will hit nineteen home runs with the Drillers last year but struggled in Triple-A hitting just .138.  This will be a big season for Smith as he looks to get a call up to the big leagues.

Tony Gonsolin:  Another fast riser in the Dodgers’ farm system, Gonsolin put himself on the map after he was the minor league pitcher of the year last season.  His fastball has gained velocity to be in the upper 90’s and he also features a changeup that some call a splitter.  His slider and curveball can be plus pitches if he is more consistent at throwing strikes with them.  He had an impressive spring and could make his way into the big league bullpen later this year.

Next. It's not yet time to worry about Joe Kelly. dark

Stetson Allie:  No offense to Noah Syndergaard, but Stetson Allie is coming for the best hair in the majors award.  The former position player has gone back to pitching and throws in the upper 90’s often hitting 100 miles per hour on the radar gun.  He needs to show better control but his stuff is electric and he could help the Dodger bullpen right now if needed.  It would not be surprising if he is one of the first relievers brought up by the Dodgers later on this season.

Notable Mentions: Ben Holmes, Dennis Santana, Edwin Rios
