LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – APRIL 02: Hyun-Jin Ryu #99 of the Los Angeles Dodgers delivers a pitch against the San Francisco Giants during the first inning at Dodger Stadium on April 02, 2019 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Yong Teck Lim/Getty Images) /

Yesterday evening it was announced that Julio Urias would make one more start before transitioning to the bullpen and that Hyun-Jin Ryu would join the Dodger rotation next week without a rehab start.  Prior to Monday’s game, Ryu threw an “aggressive” bullpen session and after departing his last start with a groin injury it appears he is ready to return.  Ryu gave up two runs in 1 2/3 innings against the Cardinals in his last start before the injury.

Hyun-Jin was off to a quick start picking up two wins and he pitched six or more innings in each of his first two starts.  That is notable because the rotation has not been pitching deep into games before Stripling and Kershaw each pitched past the sixth inning in their starts.  The return of Ryu will provide the Dodgers with two innings eaters in Kershaw and Hyun-Jin which will help the bullpen out tremendously.
