The obvious is best gotten out of the way at the beginning and Tony Gonsolin is the glaringly obvious pick for an emergency spot start.

Gonsolin has risen through the ranks in the minors from a closer at the draft to a starting pitcher and from a rather unknown name to a flamethrowing pitcher of the year, Gonsolin has done everything in his power to get his name to the tops of many viewers charts.

Gonsolin participated in big league spring training in 2019 and, like his 2018 minor league season, did nothing but shine.

However, Gonsolin’s fast track to the majors has hit a small speed bump.

As first reported by Jacob Unruh, Gonsolin was placed in the injured list after feeling some pain in his side this past Wednesday.

“He’s fine,” OKC manager Travis Barbary told Unruh. “It’s just more precautionary just to push him back to make sure he’s ready to go.”

With the injury simply a small set back and more of caution than of real injury, Gonsolin is a prime target to get called up if needed for a spot start.

He sports a fastball in the up 90’s and can tough 100 miles per hour with it on occasion. Behind the four-seamer, Gonsolin has a great curveball and slider.

Barring an injury, Gonsolins call-up status in 2019 feels more like a when not an if.
