It’s summertime, and for Dodger fans in recent seasons, that means its time to break out the rentals. Not the beach kayak or boardwalk bike rentals dotting the SoCal shoreline though (or at least not exclusively those things). With the summertime comes Andrew Friedman dealing for rental players to help the Dodgers complete their push towards October and towards winning the National League.

In the last two years, Friedman has dealt for the biggest names on the block, names like Yu Darvish, Manny Machado, and Brian Dozier, while also dealing for supporting cast members like Tony Cingrani, Tony Watson and (the most successful of all the rentals) David Freese.

This trade deadline season looks to play out no differently.

The Dodgers, as per usual, are in need of help, in part thanks to injuries and in part thanks to ineffectiveness costing the team a precious few wins as they battle the Brewers and Braves to win the National League’s best regular season record in order to secure playoff home-field advantage.

In this article, I’ll breakdown the team’s needs in the bullpen by providing a few seldom-discussed names the Dodger front office may do well to target as the July 31st deadline quickly approaches, both in terms of trades and even a free agent signing. These are not meant to be big names or even medium-sized names, but rather solid role players and potential reclamation projects to supplement the sometimes shaky bullpen. The team hinges less on trades than it has in past seasons in my estimation, and thus the big names that are available seem less helpful.
