Dodgers take on the Yankees in a potential World Series preview

Yankees pitching ranks in MLB: ERA (16th), QS (21st), BAA (13th)
The Yankees’ pitching has been very mediocre as a whole this season and their ranks exude that. This weekend the Dodgers will face James Paxton, CC Sabathia, and Domingo German. Paxton has had a down season and currently sports an ERA of 4.53 and a WHIP of 1.43. Paxton’s FIP of 4.32 supports that he has had a subpar season. He can still rack up strikeouts with a strikeout rate of eleven strikeouts per nine innings.

CC Sabathia will get the nod in game two of the series. CC is coming off his first start since returning from the IL. In his previous start, he allowed four runs in three innings against the Indians. For the season, Sabathia has an ERA of 5.01 in 18 starts. German will pitch game three against Kershaw and has a 14-3 record despite an average ERA of 4.15. Domingo is a strikeout pitcher who is averaging nine strikeouts per nine innings.
The Yankees’ bullpen has not performed as well as it was supposed to this season and they have a worse ERA than the Dodgers’ bullpen. One of their best bullpen arms, Dellin Betances, is currently on the IL with a shoulder impingement. Another former Rockie has been a big piece of their bullpen and that is Adam Ottavino. Ottavino has an ERA of 1.64 and has been one of the best relievers in MLB.
Zack Britton was brought back on a three-year deal and has performed well at the back end of the Yankees’ pen. Despite his 2.36 ERA, Aroldis Chapman has been vulnerable at times this season and has blown five saves. The free agent to be is looking for a strong finish to his contract year. The Dodgers still do not want to have to mount a comeback against NY’s bullpen.

The Dodgers should be able to produce against the Yankees’ starting rotation as the two clubs battle for the potential MLB home field tiebreaker. This could be a potential World Series match-up and is the Dodgers’ most intriguing series left this regular season.
