Dodgers: David Freese announces retirement from MLB

The Dodgers could have several players retire this offseason and one of them appears to be official as David Freese announced his retirement.
After Wednesday’s disappointing game five loss, several Dodgers players such as Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw talked about how this was likely the last game for several of the veterans on the 2019 Dodger club. One of those veterans is David Freese who announced his retirement from Major League Baseball via twitter.
While he will forever be remembered for his World Series heroics with the St. Louis Cardinals, David Freese brought his postseason reputation to Los Angeles for two Octobers. In eighteen games he hit two home runs and posted an OPS over 1.000 in both postseasons.
The Dodgers acquired David Freese at the August 31st waiver trade deadline in 2018 and it was a minor move at the time but ending up paying big dividends in the postseason. David was one of the few Dodgers who hit well in the 2018 World Series, batting .417 and filling a platoon role against Red Sox lefties David Price and Chris Sale.

Although he was not healthy for most of the 2019 season, he still showed up and delivered when it mattered most, something that cannot be said for most of the LA’s position players. While Freese was a big part of the locker room, his postseason magic will be missed most. No matter the moment or his age, Freese was one of the best hitters in the postseason over the last two years for the Dodgers.
Maybe the Dodgers will search for another Utley or Freese type to bring into the locker room or they will look up to Justin Turner and A.J. Pollock for that veteran locker room presence. While Pollock struggled this postseason, much of LA’s lineup did and they will all be looking for better results next October.

But for now the focus is on David Freese who went from a minor transaction in August of 2018 to one of the best acquisitions Andrew Friedman has made in recent seasons. David Freese is a postseason legend in St. Louis and we thank him for his time with the Dodgers that unfortunately came to an early end this season.
