Dodgers minor league affiliate to deliver hot dogs amid coronavirus

The Los Angeles Dodgers minor league affiliate finds a creative way to help during the coronavirus pandemic.

As sports fans across America have put trips to baseball stadiums on hold, a Los Angeles Dodgers’ minor league affiliate is trying to bring a piece of the ballpark experience to them. According to the Los Angeles Times, the Oklahoma City Dodgers will be delivering hot dogs to local heroes who are on the front lines in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

With Opening Day in the minor leagues originally scheduled for April 9, the team thought it would be a good idea to celebrate the passing date by helping the people who are working the hardest to bring society back to normal.

According to the report, the Dodgers are accepting fan nominations for local honorees ranging from doctors to nurses to truck drivers to grocery store workers. Team staffers will choose the winners and deliver the hot dog packed lunches on April 9.

Oklahoma City has been home to the Dodgers Triple-A affiliate since 2015, a season in which they set a modern record for wins on their way to an 86-58 record and American Northern Division title.

The team has always been on the cutting edge of food ideas. Oklahoma City Dodgers executive chef Will Fenwick brings Big League menu items to the minor league park. He has created a pizza named after Tommy Lasorda, and several other delicious food options. It’s not clear if Fenwick is involved in the hot dog idea, but the entire organization seems to have the knack for turning tasty treats into baseball-themed ideas.
