Former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Carl Crawford made his first public comments since a double drowning occurred at his home.

After a woman and young child passed away last week from drowning in a pool outside of Carl Crawford’s Houston home, the former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder shared words of sadness and remorse via social media on Saturday.

“My Hearts Heavy,” Crawford’s message shared on Instagram reads. “The tragic events that occurred at my home will be with me forever. I’m at a loss for words. I’ve struggled all week to manage by emotions and I keep thinking of the families of those who’ve passed and their grief, I know they have it the hardest. They are the first and last thing I think of these days. Please keep them in your prayers, I know they will always be in mine.”

The double drowning, first reported by TMZ, occurred last Saturday afternoon (May 16). A police spokesman told the Houston Chronicle that a 5-year-old boy was swimming in the pool when he experienced difficulties breathing, causing a nearby woman to jump into the water to try to save him. Unfortunately, neither survived the incident. Both were unresponsive when paramedics arrived at the scene, and later declared dead at the hospital.

Carl Crawford played for the Los Angeles Dodgers between 2013-2016.

Acquired in a nine-player, blockbuster deal with the Boston Red Sox in 2012, Crawford had a decent first few seasons in Los Angeles before injuries slowed him down. He was ultimately designated for assignment in 2016 with $35 million remaining on his contract.

Crawford had been a four-time All Star and Gold Glove winner for the Tampa Bay Rays earlier in his career. He also led the American League in stolen bases four times.

Since retiring from baseball, the speedy outfielder has worked as the CEO of a Houston-based independent record company that came under legal troubles over the signing of hip hop artist Megan Thee Stallion.

It’s hard to imagine what Crawford is going through right now, following this incredible tragedy at his home. Our thoughts and prayers are with him during these difficult times.
