Dodgers: How to make dog and cat fan cutouts for Dodger Stadium
Los Angeles Dodgers fans can now purchase a cardboard cutout of their pet to display at Dodger Stadium.
Perhaps the most telling sign of baseball returning under anything but normal conditions is seeing all of the cardboard cutouts replacing real fans at major league stadiums. The Los Angeles Dodgers had plenty on display during the team’s opening series against the San Francisco Giants.
We even saw Will Smith decapitate a fan cutout on a home run ball that turned the real fan into a social media celebrity when he reached out to the Dodgers catcher asking for a signed ball.
The best part about all of this is that net proceeds from the cutouts go to a good cause. As of last week, nearly $800,000 had already been raised in support of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation.
Can I get a Dodgers fan cutout of my dog or cat?
After the success of fan cutouts, the Dodgers have now extended their program to include cats and dogs. A new section of cutouts has been added to the stadium in the Loge Level that is reserved for furry friends.
To get your pup or kitten on display at Dodger Stadium, it will cost you $149—but again, the net proceeds got to charity.
Pets will be placed in sections 143-147. Purchases are tax-deductible net of the fair market value of the cutout received by the purchaser (valued at $11.25). This is because fans get to keep their cutout at the end of the season as a piece of memorabilia that is truly unique to the 2020 season.
Although, I don’t know. Maybe a team like the Tampa Bay Rays will decide to use this tactic to fill their seats even when fans are allowed to return.
How do I make a cutout for my dog or cat?
The Dodgers provide guidelines for taking the perfect picture of your furry friend to display on the cardboard cutout. The five guidelines are provided below with photo specifications from the Dodgers included in the tweet below.
- Make sure you are eye level with your pet. The photo must be of just your pet.
- Have your pet sit versus laying down. Try to have them face the camera.
- Find a space with good lighting. Make sure your background is not a similar color to your pet.
- Please be sure to remove any visible personal identifications such as name or phone number that might appear on collar/tags.
- Have your pup give us a big smile and say, “Go Dodgers!”
Of course, there are also rules on what is considered impermissible content. They apply more so to human cutouts, but the general idea is to avoid sending any pictures that you wouldn’t feel comfortable posting in a public place. You can learn more here.
