The Los Angeles Dodgers lost ground on the San Francisco Giants in the NL West race after losing on Wednesday night, but there’s not much they can do. The Giants just won’t stop winning.

LA can gain a half-game with a win against the St. Louis Cardinals in Thursday’s series finale, however, because the Giants have the day off before facing the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field this weekend.

After taking the first two of this four-game set, the Dodgers were neutralized by Cards veteran ace Adam Wainwright on Wednesday. Can’t blame them for that. But now they need to capture the series win this afternoon to keep pace and gear up for a date with the San Diego Padres.

Let’s take a look at today’s betting preview and how things match up.

What Time is the Dodgers Game Today?

The Dodgers and Cardinals will face off at 10:15 AM PST on Thursday , Sept. 9.

What Channel is the Dodgers Game on Today?

You can catch the Dodgers game on SportsNet LA, or on Bally Sports Midwest if you find yourself in the STL area.

Dodgers vs Cardinals Odds Today

Per WynnBET, the Dodgers are the favorites at -165 on the moneyline (bet $165 to win $100) and the Cardinals are the underdogs for the fourth straight day at +140 (bet $100 to win $140). If you want better odds on the Dodgers, you can take them -1.5 runs (they have to win by two runs or more) at -105 (bet $105 to win $100). The Cards are -115 if you take them +1.5 runs (the bet cashes if they win or lose by one run).

We’ve got an 8.5 over/under run total, with the over particularly expensive at -140 (bet $140 to win $100) and the under at a favorable +115 (bet $100 to win $115). The start time is weird, the pitching matchup is weird, and we can expect the lineups to be a little weird, so it’s a toss up.

Dodgers Pitcher Today

It’ll be Tony Gonsolin (2-1, 2.78 ERA) in his return from the injured list against Jake Woodford (2-3, 4.47 ERA), who is making just his fourth career MLB start. Honestly, not too much analysis here! Two right-handers with fairly limited track records in 2021. Gonsolin has been making cameos as he goes back and forth to the IL and Woodford just made his “transition” to the rotation. He started three straight games and then came on in “relief” from innings 2-7 against the Brewers last week, tossing 5.1 scoreless frames. Not bad.

Gonsolin has 30 MLB games under his belt and Woodford has 33, but Gonsolin has more experience in pressure situations given his contributions to the 2020 World Series team. If we were to guess, we’d side with him, especially with a fairly rested Dodgers’ pen.

Dodgers vs Cardinals Prediction Today

The Dodgers almost stole Wednesday night’s game with a late comeback, and that was against a much better pitcher in Adam Wainwright, who tossed his 10th straight quality start. Luckily for LA, they have a decently rested bullpen after Mitch White gave them five innings of work. Now, if Gonsolin can give them somewhere between 4-5, they’ll be well-equipped to chase Woodford and go to town on the weak St. Louis bullpen.

Dodgers win the series by a score of 7-4.
