Would it be bold to bet on the Rockies at that price with the pitching matchup somehow being skewed in their favor? It’s certainly a worthwhile risk to take. But Freeland has given up 12 earned runs in his last four starts. He was knocked around by the Giants and Phillies and was removed after one inning against the Rangers due to an injury back on Sept. 1. His most recent good start came against the lowly Nationals, during which he tossed six scoreless.

But you simply cannot bet against Scherzer right now. He’s seeing red, and he knows it’s up to him to help carry this team to a division title … or at least the NLDS, should the Dodgers be forced to play in the NL Wild Card Game.
