After 162 games of trying to avoid the rather unfortunate fate of the entire season resting on a one-game playoff with a red-hot opponent, the Los Angeles Dodgers succumbed to the inevitable momentum of the San Francisco Giants’ freakish campaign on Sunday afternoon.
They won — yet again! — and yet, finally, it was officially not enough.
LA swept the division-champion Brewers at Chavez Ravine over the weekend to secure a 106-win season. Battered, bruised and without Clayton Kershaw for the foreseeable future, the Dodgers still went supernova, matching or exceeding the historic expectations placed upon them before the season despite seemingly endless injury problems.
It still wasn’t enough to pass the 107-win Giants, the team Los Angeles will face in the first round (instead of the NLCS) thanks to MLB’s new playoff rules. Is what it is. Time to preview the Wednesday night contest we never wanted to have to handle.

Dodgers vs Cardinals Odds Today
According to our friends at WynnBET, the Dodgers are massive favorites (somewhat odd!) on the moneyline, sitting at -205 to take home the victory (bet $205 to win $100). If you prefer the Cardinals as impressive underdogs, which they’ve been for the better part of 2021, they’re at +182 (bet $100 to win $182).
On the run line, the Dodgers still check in as -105 favorites to win by two runs or more, while the Cards are -115 to either win outright or lose by a single run. The over/under’s been set at 7.5, and both the over and under check in at -110.
Dodgers Pitcher Today
Max Scherzer. Could it be anyone else?! Mad Max, aka the No. 1 reason the San Diego Padres didn’t sniff this game, finished this season at 7-0 with a 1.98 ERA in 11 starts in Dodger Blue. Despite the slightest of stumbles at the end of the season, there’s no one you’d rather have out there … though the options prepared to follow him in the postseason are also quite impressive.
On the bump for the Redbirds will be Adam Wainwright, who finished the regular season at 17-7 with a remarkable 3.05 ERA and 206.1 innings pitched. He parlayed that into a contract extension through the age of 41. No easy task to beat this dude.
Dodgers Starting Lineup
Check back in with us closer to game time on Wednesday! Let’s go!
Dodgers vs Cardinals Prediction Today
It’s easier to bet against the St. Louis Cardinals now that their untenable 17-game winning streak has already been snapped. It now seems possible to beat them. Which is nice.
Max Scherzer will be ready and motivated to prove he wasn’t brought to Los Angeles just to taste one-game glory. Even without Max Muncy, there isn’t a hole to be found in this lineup; Matt Beaty delivered the decisive blow this weekend anyway, right? LA’s ‘pen is prepared. There’s no point in entering this game as a Dodgers fan and wussing out about the possibility of a one-and-done.
America needs Dodgers-Giants. We’d prefer it for seven games, sure, but we need it for five. 6-4, Dodgers win.
