It hasn't quite been the start to the offseason that the Los Angeles Dodgers have grown used to. In recent years, it seemed as if all LA had to do was make a call to their desired free agent target, and it was a mere formality that a deal would be completed. That trend has been reversed through the early weeks of this offseason.
The Dodgers haven't just missed on Raisel Iglesias, who returned to the Atlanta Braves; they've also whiffed on Devin Williams (signed with the New York Mets) and Ryan Helsley (signed with the Baltimore Orioles).
The good news for the Dodgers is that they should be the talk of Orlando with the Winter Meetings getting underway. Los Angeles is no stranger to acting quickly to poach a target, and they may need to have that approach during the weel ahead.
4 Dodgers targets likely to come off the board fast at 2025 Winter Meetings
Pete Fairbanks
Given the signings that have already happened, it would be a fair assumption to suggest that Pete Fairbanks is one of the players to sign during the Winter Meetings. He isn't quite in the tier of Edwin Diaz or Robert Suarez, but there should be a healthy amount of interest, considering the success he had with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Dodgers were interested in Fairbanks at the trade deadline, and they may need to move quickly if they want to avoid missing for a second time.
Steven Kwan
The Winter Meetings are often good for at least one blockbuster trade, and after failing to do so in July it would seem that the Cleveland Guardians may move Steven Kwan this offseason. Kwan is an appealing option for teams who aren't quite convinced that Kyle Tucker is worth $400 million, and he is also under control for two more seasons. He is going to be a popular name at the Winter Meetings, and the Dodgers should be among the teams in the mix.
Cody Bellinger
As crazy as it would have sounded earlier this year, there seems to be some chance of a reunion between Cody Bellinger and the Los Angeles Dodgers. It may not be likely, but as the Dodgers look for an upgrade in the outfield, Bellinger could be among the options they are considering. Unlike the last time he was a free agent, Bellinger is getting healthy interest this offseason, with a return to the New York Yankees also possible. At the very least, it doesn't sound like his free agency will drag out this time around.
Brendan Donovan
The St. Louis Cardinals are expected to be one of the most active teams on the trade market, and got started last month by trading Sonny Gray to the Boston Red Sox. Chaim Bloom's sell-off of the Cardinals' roster is expected to continue at the Winter Meetings, with Brendan Donovan appearing to be a clear trade candidate. The Dodgers were among the teams to check in on Donovan last July and may need to be ready to get a deal done next week if they want to follow through on their past interest.
