5 former Dodgers still without a job heading into the 2025 season

With weeks still to go until spring training, many players have landed on new teams or re-upped their contracts with previous ones. Plenty of players still remain on the market and unsigned, though.

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a few free agents depart without an extension after the 2024 season and the few campaigns before. Some found homes with other teams quickly, like Walker Buehler with the Red Sox. But a few recent former Dodgers still need jobs for 2025, and LA could be an option for a couple of them.

Here's a list of a few players who once donned Dodger Blue but remain free agents with just a few weeks until spring training 2025.

Jack Flaherty

Jack Flaherty was traded to the Dodgers at the 2024 trade deadline after a dominant start to the year with the Tigers. He posted a 2.95 ERA over 106.2 innings in Detroit and slipped a little when he came to LA, but his 3.58 ERA over 55.1 regular-season innings in Dodger Blue was still solid.

Flaherty, a California native and lifelong LA fan, would likely like to reunite with the Dodgers, but after they signed Blake Snell, their rotation is filled to the brim. The Orioles, Blue Jays and Giants are a few teams interested in the righty.

Kiké Hernández

Kiké Hernández has been a Dodgers fan favorite since his career with the team began in 2015. After a brief tenure with the Red Sox from 2021-23, Hernández returned to LA before that season's trade deadline, along with his defensive versatility and goofy clubhouse antics. He then signed a new deal with the Dodgers prior to the '24 campaign.

Hernández slashed just .229/.281/.373 over 123 games in the regular season, but his best work came out in the playoffs, as it tends to do. He batted .294/.357/.451 with two homers and six RBI during LA's World Series-winning run and potentially earned himself a better contract with another club.

Kenley Jansen

Kenley Jansen departed the Dodgers organization in 2021 after 12 seasons as the team's go-to closer. He posted a 3.48 ERA with 70 saves in 108.2 innings pitched between the Braves and Red Sox organizations in the last three years.

Jansen told the "Foul Territory" podcast that he hopes to return to the Dodgers organization before he eventually retires, and with Joe Kelly leaving LA as a free agent after his rough 2024 season, a reunion could be possible. There have been no rumors officially linking the two parties, though.

Justin Turner

Another longtime Dodger, Justin Turner, is still looking for a team for the 2025 campaign. The first and third baseman has played with the Red Sox, Blue Jays and Mariners since he left LA in 2022. He's shown some offensive decline with age — Turner batted .259/.354/.383 over 139 games between Toronto and Seattle in 2024.

Turner turned 40 in November and may only get a one or two-year deal wherever he signs. He may also be best suited to a designated hitter role at this stage in his career. He has expressed interest in returning to Seattle.

Alex Verdugo

Alex Verdugo was traded to Boston for Mookie Betts in 2019, which has turned into quite the upgrade for Los Angeles. After a rough walk year with the Yankees, the outfielder has reached the free agent market for the first time and is still courting potential teams.

Verdugo batted .233/.291/.356 alongside the American League MVP and the runner-up in the Yankees outfield. There haven't been many rumors about the 28-year-old this offseason, but his upper-quartile defense could help him find a home before the 2025 slate begins.
