With Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman returning to Atlanta for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game this week, Braves fans appear to be torn on how to feel. It has been a surprisingly mixed reception for Freeman online.

For some, Freeman wearing a Dodgers uniform during an Atlanta All-Star game only reopens the wounds of the Braves, dropping the ball during the 2021-2022 offseason.

For others, things are a bit played out, and they are ready to move on from the Freddie Freeman era entirely.

One thing is for certain. Atlanta Braves fans need to stop living in the past.

Get over it Atlanta, Freddie Freeman is a Dodger

Freddie Freeman is a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and quite honestly, when he retires from Major League Baseball, that might be how fans remember him.

Sure, he spent more seasons in Atlanta. But Freeman has already made four All-Star teams with the Dodgers and won a World Series with the Dodgers. He’s under contract in Los Angeles through 2027, and by the time his deal is up, he may have surpassed most of his Braves accolades in a Dodgers uniform.

Freeman’s best two seasons of his career, according to fWAR, were 2022 and 2023 with the Dodgers. He hit his iconic walk-off grand slam to win a World Series game…with the Dodgers.

Freeman will always be a Braves legend, too. But at this point, it has been almost four years and the first baseman that took Freeman’s place is a two-time All-Star in his own right.

Matt Olson led baseball in home runs (54) and RBI (139) in 2023. He posted a 6.7 fWAR that year, which is better than Freddie Freeman ever had in his Braves career.

Braves fans don’t seem to care. They just seem set on rehashing the Freddie Freeman conversation every time he shows his face in the city of Atlanta.

With Freeman having another All-Star Game “moment” in front of the Braves crowd on Tuesday night, multiple things can be true.

  1. Freddie Freeman is a Braves legend that the fan base should appreciate.
  2. The Braves mishandled Freeman's situation in the 2021-2022 offseason. They never should have let him get away.
  3. Freeman is a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He loves being with the Dodgers and Braves fans need to move on and focus on the team that’s actually wearing a Braves uniform.
  4. Not everything Freddie Freeman does in Atlanta deserves a special round of applause.

At this rate, the Braves fanbase will still be living in 2021 while the Los Angeles Dodgers hoist a World Series trophy in consecutive years.

As I said earlier, the more the Dodgers win, the more Freeman becomes synonymous with Los Angeles baseball instead of Atlanta. That's just reality.
