On Tuesday night, the Dodgers were up 3-0 over the Blue Jays, and Shohei Ohtani came up to the plate with a runner on first. He took a strike from Kevin Gausman, which rookie catcher Brandon Valenzuela then fired to first base as Alex Freeland dove back to safety.

The throw was way off-line — Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had to make a dive himself to catch it — but back in the box, Ohtani grimaced, dropped his bat, and held onto his elbow as Valenzuela paced away, shaking out his hand.

Replay showed what went down: Valenzuela's fist collided with Ohtani's funny bone after he made the throw. And then the broadcast picked up a bellowed expletive before cutting back to Ohtani walking it off, accompanied by a trainer.

"I think we even saw a mastery of a different portion of the English language coming out of his mouth," play-by-play announcer Joe Davis said.

Ohtani stayed in and completed the at-bat with a flyout. He stayed in the game and flew out again in the seventh. Dave Roberts didn't think it was anything major, suggesting that Ohtani was caught off-guard by the contact and was "probably just doing a body check and making sure he felt good coming out of it."

Fans just saw another side of Shohei Ohtani in Dodgers-Blue Jays series

Clips of the moment have gone viral since Tuesday night. Baseball players cursing is far from unusual, but it's different when it comes from a player who's always as composed as Ohtani. Whatever monster came out when Ohtani unleashed that F-bomb into Rogers Centre was not one that Dodgers fans are familiar with.

The team they were facing probably had something to do with it, too. Clearly, the contact between Ohtani and Valenzuela was unintentional, and the Dodgers have put on cool airs about their return to Toronto after the World Series, but tensions between these two teams are going to be high for the foreseeable future. Blue Jays manager John Schneider was ejected from the game just one batter before Ohtani came up.

The bottom line is that Ohtani is okay. His reaction might've been a little outsized, but we all know that getting hit on the funny bone isn't fun. If anything Dodgers fans might want to see more of that kind of thing out of Ohtani. It makes for great television, at least.
