Watching the Milwaukee Brewers play baseball at any point in 2026 (and particularly during the postseason), it became clear that no team wanted to win more than this group. That included the Los Angeles Dodgers, despite LA having the opportunity to chase a third-consecutive World Series championship and make history of their own.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts isn't interested in hiding from the above reality. In fact, he's being wide open about embracing the fact that the Brewers were hungrier than his ball club this season.
Dave Roberts openly admitted that the Brewers were hungrier than the Dodgers in 2026
Appearing on the Baseball Tonight with Buster Olney podcast, Roberts said that while he typically has a hard time watching the postseason after his team's been eliminated, this year was different. Roberts said that he loved watching the Brewers play, mostly due to their unrelenting will to win.
“I was telling my wife after we got eliminated, I know our guys are hungry, but the Brewers were starving ... willing to die for every pitch, every at-bat, every win," Roberts told Olney.
Roberts also brought up a few examples to illustrate his point, mainly an at-bat from Brewers shortstop Cooper Pratt in the NLCS in which Pratt nearly got drilled in the head by a 102-mph fastball from Edgardo Henriquez, stayed in the box, and then smacked a line-drive single later in the at-bat.
It was the kind of "undaunted" mindset and toughness from Pratt that encapsulated what the Brewers are currently about, and Roberts isn't afraid to admit that he admires it. Any baseball lover would.

Roberts has been consistent in his praise of this Brewers team, and it shows that he's a classy person. In the immediate aftermath of the Dodgers' elimination, Roberts complimented Milwaukee for outplaying his club "in all facets". Now, he's found a way to point out that the Brewers were hungrier than his own team, without throwing the Dodgers under the bus or anything of that nature.
Complacency is an inevitable human trait. The Dodgers shouldn't be chastised for falling into its traps in 2026. The better move is to give flowers to the team that out-willed them, which is exactly what Roberts has done here.
Roberts' job isn't an easy one, as Brewers skipper Pat Murphy recently pointed out. You can talk about the roster talent and unlimited front office resources, but Roberts is still tasked with motivating his guys, and he's also expected to win the whole thing every year. During the postseason, Roberts did his part to try and speak into existence a "smarter, better, tougher" culture inside the Dodgers' clubhouse. But in the end, the Brewers walked the walk of that slogan much more genuinely this October.
