Dave Roberts has had to take a lot of flack from Dodgers fans and media through his nine-year tenure as manager. There's a loud contingency within the fanbase that probably won't waver from the calls to fire him, though they'll have to quiet down at least until next season.

To be fair, Roberts made some questionable decisions as recently as Game 5, when he left Blake Treinen on the mound in the bottom of the eighth to continue what would end up being the longest relief appearance of his season. There was also the fact that he didn't opt to go for the kill in Game 4 and instead left Brent Honeywell out to bleed for his team, but both points are sort of rendered moot by the fact that everything turned out okay in Game 5.

There can no longer be any doubt in Roberts' ability to lead this team to a World Series in a full regular season. The Dodgers took their eighth franchise title, the second of the decade and the second under Roberts' management in glorious fashion.

After Walker Buehler threw a final swinging strike to Alex Verdugo to clinch the title, Roberts immediately threw his arms up and screamed. You've never seen a guy quite that happy.

He knew exactly what that meant.

We said this after the Dodgers won the NLCS, but it bears repeating: Dave Roberts isn't going anywhere. If the front office was going to have a conversation about keeping him at all, it's flown out the window now. Although he hasn't settled on a contract extension with the team past 2025, there's almost a 100% chance that we'll be hearing about one in the next few weeks.

Roberts is one of the winningest managers in Dodgers history. Does the guy make some questionable decisions sometimes, and does he put his foot in his mouth? Yes, but his record speaks for itself. All of that talk about the Dodgers choking in the postseason needs some real re-examination now, if it isn't scrapped entirely.

Roberts deserved to bask in the celebration with his team, and he deserves to stay in LA. The Yankees might be stuck with a manager their fans hate for completely inconceivable reasons, but the Dodgers have a good one, and they should probably keep him as long as he wants to stay.
