Dodger Stadium goes completely silent after Shohei Ohtani leaves game with injury
During Teoscar Hernández's at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 2 of the World Series, Shohei Ohtani attempted to steal second base.
The Los Angeles Dodgers' designated hitter took off toward second base as the baseball left Clay Holmes' hand. New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells fired to catch Ohtani at second base, but not before he dropped into a slide.
Ohtani's left hand reached the ground first and took the brunt of his fall. He remained on the ground and asked for a timeout after the umpire called him out on the throw. He winced in pain and grabbed his left arm as silence fell over the crowd at Dodger Stadium.
The 30-year-old was helped off the field by an athletic trainer, who held his arm the entire way to the dugout. It was later stated on the broadcast that Ohtani experienced pain in his shoulder, but the severity of the injury is not yet known.
