Dodgers are about to show Brewers how important it was to win the Tarik Skubal trade

Tarik Skubal is still seeking is first win in a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform, and funny enough, it could come against the team that finished behind the Dodgers in the Skubal sweepstakes at the trade deadline.

The Dodgers are hosting the Milwaukee Brewers for a four-game set this weekend, and as currently scheduled, Skubal will take the mound for the series finale on Sunday. It could be one final reminder for Milwaukee of the move they should have made at the deadline.

Just as it seems the Dodgers are righting the ship, the Brewers have hit a skid. They split their last ten games, and were just swept by the San Diego Padres. The expectation had been that Milwaukee would cruise to a first-place finish in the National League Central, but suddenly, the Chicago Cubs are only three games back of their division rival.

More importantly, for the Dodgers, they enter this series only one game back of the Brewers for the best record in the National. For all the fear of what a Wild Card series could look like for LA, handling business this weekend could once again put them in a position for a first-round bye.

Obviously, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Justin Wrobleski, and Skubal is an ideal order for the the Dodgers to close out the series against Milwaukee. But, if we're being honest, Roki Sasaki shouldn't be slept on. Over his last four starts, Sasaki has an ERA of 1.88 while striking out 26 in 24 innings pitched.

While Brewers manager Pat Murphy had to remind anyone who would listen that Milwaukee still has the best record in baseball, the team also had a meeting after their loss to the Padres on Wednesday.

Tarik Skubal gives Dodgers perfect chance to torment Brewers after deadline

Murphy's schtick may not be enough for the Brewers to overcome the lack of urgency they had at the deadline. The Brewers found an upgrade in their rotation by trading for Dustin May, but that doesn't have the same impact as Skubal. The expectation was that this would be the summer that the Brewers truly pushed their chips to the middle of the table, and the reporting of the Detroit Tigers' trade talks with the Dodgers and Brewers proved that wasn't the case.

This weekend is an early preview of why the Dodgers made Skubal a priority at the deadline. Nothing should be left to chance. LA has an opportunity to add to the regret the Brewers should already have over not landing Skubal, and that is a great spot to be in.
