The Los Angeles Dodgers are already the most reviled organization in MLB. After handing out massive paydays to players like Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani during the 2023-24 offseason, and then winning the 2024 World Series, LA became public enemy No. 1 in the eyes of most baseball fans.

The sport has always been about the haves and have nots, and the Dodgers certainly have a wealth of resources at the moment. Former MVPs dot the roster, an abundance of top prospects are used for trade fodder, and it seems as if every rumor this time of year links the top players ahead of the July 31 deadline to Los Angeles.

Life can't get much better if you're a Dodger fan. Or can it?

If you thought there was a revolt among MLB fanbases after the Dodgers signed Ohtani to a heavily-deferred contract, wait until you see the reaction from the masses if LA is able to sign Tarik Skubal away from the Detroit Tigers in free agency less than two years from now.

The reigning AL Cy Young Award-winner is well on his way to some more hardware in 2025. The lefty is currently 10-3 with a 2.23 ERA, 0.826 WHIP, and 153 punch outs in 121 innings of work this season. Skubal is an ace in every sense of the word, and outside of perhaps Paul Skenes, is regarded as the best pitcher on the planet.

Dodgers catcher Will Smith was asked about the potential of playing alongside Skubal after the Tigers' starter reaches free agency following the 2026 season. "As the catcher, you want to catch all the best names," Smith told the Detroit Free Press. "As the Dodgers, we want to win the World Series, and that means getting the best players each and every year."

That's quite the recruiting pitch from the Dodgers' backstop, who himself is under contract through the 2033 season. Smith is handling catching duties for Ohtani, Yamamoto, Clayton Kershaw, and others, and would undoubtedly love to add Skubal's name to Dodgers' 2027 starting rotation.

It's a virtual guarantee that Detroit will do everything within their power to retain their ace, but given the Tigers' financial constraints, there's no way they can compete with LA. Skubal to the Dodgers may be inevitable.
