The Dodgers don't have that much to do this offseason, and GM Brandon Gomes hinted at a quiet few months for LA when he talked about "fine-tuning" the roster and being very specific in their targeting instead of going all-out the way they did in 2023 and 2024.
They locked their 2026 infield when they picked up Max Muncy's club option for next season. It'll be Freddie Freeman at first, likely Tommy Edman at second with some flexibility to accommodate Hyeseong Kim or top prospect Alex Freeland, Mookie Betts at short, and Muncy at third. The rotation is the best in baseball.
The bullpen and, to a lesser extent, the outfield are the focuses of the Dodgers' offseason. Kyle Tucker, Steven Kwan, and Cody Bellinger are all reported targets.
Again, the infield isn't going to be a concern, but that hasn't stopped Dodgers fans from dreaming big about another reunion to pair with a possible Bellinger one.
There are no real rumors around former Dodger and current Texas Ranger Corey Seager, but Ken Rosenthal kicked up speculation when he made a logical conclusion: the Rangers want to shed payroll, and Seager still has six years left on a very big contract.
Ken Rosenthal got Dodgers fans excited with Corey Seager trade speculation
There are a couple of problems with this, of course. The Dodgers won't move Mookie Betts off of shortstop when he spent two seasons learning the position and earning a Gold Glove nomination for his work there this year. More realistically, they could move Muncy into a backup role and shift a frequently-injured Seager to third.
Still, it would also be hard to give up the prospect capital it would take to get him and then pay out the $189 million left through 2031, his age-37 season. He's always excellent when he's healthy, but he just can't stay healthy.
The Rangers are also basically always looking to reduce payroll, but they signed Seager to be the centerpiece of their organization for a very long time, and it feels far more likely they would find new homes for Adolis Garcia and Jonah Heim before looking at Seager.
The Bellinger rumors have Dodgers fans feeling very nostalgic, but it's much harder to envision a deal with the Rangers for Seager than signing Bellinger out of free agency.
