No matter what MLB insider you prefer, chances are they have the Los Angeles Dodgers as the favorites for Tarik Skubal if the Detroit Tigers make him available before the MLB trade deadline.

Life is good for the Dodgers in that sense; knowing that they have prospect capital to make just about any move they desire. The last position the Dodgers will find themselves in anytime soon is that of the San Francisco Giants.

The Giants are just about ready to wave the white flag on the season. In the past week, there's been multiple reports from national outlets, suggesting that the team is ready open trade talks.

Whether it was Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, ESPN's Buster Olney, or MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, the consensus was the same. The Giants will be sellers at the deadline but not to the extent that they will be looking to trade controllable ace Logan Webb.

Instead, the veterans that have disappointed and carrying bloated contracts, those are the players that San Francisco is looking to move.

Not every team can spend like the Dodgers

To spare you the at-home math, collectively, those three players are owed $486 million over the next seven years. Rafael Devers has seven years left on his deal, while Willy Adames and Matt Chapman have five years left on their respective contracts. Of the three, only Chapman is carrying a wRC+ over 100.

Regardless, those are three bad contracts that the Giants are looking to move, which kind of takes the appeal out of the idea that Buster Posey and Co. are open for business. There's no conspiracy needed to suggest that San Francisco would want to move those players. The problem is that there's no team that would be willing to take on that contract. Unless the Giants are willing to absorb most of that remaining money, it's hard to imagine them finding a trade that would be worth their while.

If the Giants aren't willing to move Webb, there's going to be a cap to their deadline success. If he were made available, Webb would be the best starting pitcher available this side of Skubal. But in selling off pieces that no one in baseball will have much of an interest in, it's hard to pinpoint what exactly the plan is for the Dodgers' rival.

This is yet another reminder of just how wide the gap is between the Dodgers and Giants. Off the field, the rivalry certainly still matters but it's hard to the Giants carrying their end of the bargain on the field.

But hey, no one should ever be faulted for having dreams, even if they aren't based in reality.
