Dino Ebel has been the Dodgers' third base coach since the 2019 season, but his history with the organization goes back even further. He signed with the Dodgers as an undrafted free agent in 1988, was a player-coach by 1991, and became the manager of LA's then-High-A affiliate the San Bernardino Spirit before jumping around managing in the lower levels of the organization.
He spent 17 years with the Dodgers before moving on to the Angels, where he served as a bench coach and third base coach until the Dodgers brought him back as their third base coach in November of 2018. LA experienced some shifts in management over the offseason, which expanded Ebel's role to work with outfielders.
All told, Ebel's been with the club for 25 years, and it could soon turn into a family affair. His son, Brady Ebel, will go into the 2025 Draft, which takes place on July 13-14 in Atlanta. The Dodgers won't get their first pick until Competitive Balance Round A, when they go back-to-back at picks 40 and 41.
Baseball America mocked the first 40 picks and listed Brady as a potential first choice for the Dodgers.

Ebel just wrapped up his senior year at Corona High School right outside of LA as a shortstop and third baseman. Baseball America's Carlos Collazo writes, "Ebel might not have the defensive profile to be a slam dunk first-rounder, but there are scouts who view him as the best pure hitter on a loaded Corona High squad. He has an advanced understanding of the strike zone, great size for his age—he turns 18 a few days after the draft—at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds and a strong track record of hitting."
MLB Pipeline ranks Ebel as the No. 64 player going into the draft, with especially high marks for his arm (60-grade) but less-than-stellar reviews for his speed, which could prompt a full-time move to third at some point in his professional career.
The Dodgers have had a recent history of taking high school players with their first picks. Maddux Bruns from UMS-Wright Prep went 29th in 2022, Kendall George of Atascocita High School went 36th in 2023, and Kellon Lindsey of Hardee High School went 23rd last year.
The Dodgers don't have skin in the game for some of the absolute top picks in this year's draft, so they could keep Ebel close to home with the 40th or 41st pick.
