Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Edwin Díaz appears to be making steady progress in his recovery from right elbow surgery, offering optimism that L.A. could have its prized closer back in the bullpen not long after the All-Star break.
Díaz underwent successful arthroscopic surgery in late April to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. He was cleared to resume throwing at the end of May and has since progressed to playing catch and completing throwing programs at Dodger Stadium. According to manager Dave Roberts, Díaz is “coming along really well” and is expected to throw a bullpen session this week.
That would mark an important step in his progression, though Díaz still has several hurdles to clear before returning to game action. He will likely need to complete multiple bullpen sessions, advance to facing live hitters and appear in rehab games before being activated.
The Dodgers signed Díaz to a three-year, $69 million contract this past offseason, making a major investment in one of baseball’s most dominant closers. His return would significantly strengthen a bullpen that has become somewhat of a weak spot for the reigning back-to-back World Series champs.

Dodgers Injury Update: Tyler Glasnow still shut down from throwing
Tyler Glasnow’s recovery from a back injury remains stalled, leaving the Dodgers without a clear timeline for the right-hander’s return.
Glasnow originally exited a start in Houston in early May after just one inning because of back spasms, and he initially hoped to avoid the injured list altogether. Less than a month later, however, he was shifted from the 15-day to the 60-day IL. Roberts said Monday that Glasnow is still “not doing anything” and has made “not really any progress” while continuing to deal with back discomfort.
The Dodgers are hoping Glasnow can begin ramping up in the coming days, but he has yet to resume throwing, making a return before the All-Star break increasingly unlikely. Los Angeles has managed to patch together its rotation with contributions from Justin Wrobleski, Roki Sasaki and the newly acquired Eric Lauer, but Glasnow’s continued absence remains a concern. For Glasnow, it is another frustrating setback in a career repeatedly interrupted by injuries.
Dodgers Injury Update: Teoscar Hernández could start rehab assignment this weekend
Here’s a brief update: Teoscar Hernández appears to be closing in on a return from his hamstring injury sooner than initially expected.
Hernández has been sidelined since May 27, when he strained his hamstring while running to first base. The injury was expected to keep him out for roughly a month, but less than three weeks later, he is already progressing toward game action.
Hernández went through pregame work on the field, including batting practice, ahead of the Dodgers' loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. Roberts said he could begin a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as this weekend, provided he continues to progress without any setbacks.
Before the injury, Hernández was hitting .276 with a .785 OPS and had started to heat up offensively, making his potential return an important boost for the Dodgers’ lineup.
