The Los Angeles Dodgers got some positive injury news on Sunday when manager Dave Roberts told reporters (including Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic) that infielder Hyeseong Kim would report to Triple-A Oklahoma City this week to begin a rehab assignment.
Kim, who has been on the injured list since July 29 while recovering from shoulder bursitis, has completed batting practice with no issue and is now ready to test out his left shoulder in a game setting. If all goes well during his rehab assignment, the former KBO standout could be ready to rejoin the Dodgers before the end of August.
With Tommy Edman still not expected to return until at least September, Kim could settle in as the Dodgers' primary second baseman in the short term once he is activated off the injured list. Joining him in Oklahoma City this week is utility man Kiké Hernández, who is also set to begin a rehab assignment of his own.
Hernández has been sidelined with a left elbow injury since July 7 and was able to resume on-field batting practice late last week. If all goes well with his rehab assignment, he could be on track to return to the Dodgers by late August or early September.
Dodgers Injury Updates: Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates to begin rehab assignments this week
A pair of Dodgers relievers are also set to begin minor league rehab assignments this week. Tanner Scott, who has been out since late July with an elbow injury, threw a simulated inning against live hitters on Friday for the first time since going on the IL and will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.
Kirby Yates, who has also been out since late July with a back injury, faced live hitters on Saturday and will also begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday. If all goes well, both relievers are expected to return to the Dodgers by the end of August.
Additionally, Michael Kopech made his second rehab outing with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday and threw 24 pitches (12 strikes). The right-hander, who has been on the IL since late June with a knee injury, could also return by the end of the month.
Reinforcements are on the way, and the Dodgers didn't even need them to sweep the Padres and get back on track.
