Dodgers News: Freddie Freeman World Series MVP, Shohei Ohtani celebration, Parade details
The Los Angeles Dodgers are World Champions, and it's doubtful that folks in LA got much sleep last night. After being mocked for their World Series win during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, no one is laughing now as the Dodgers put an exclamation point on their 2024 campaign with a World Series title.
The comeback victory over the New York Yankees in Game 5 gave Los Angeles their eighth World Championship, and with so many talented players returning in 2025, this could be the beginning of a long and storied run for the Dodgers' franchise.
Dodgers News: Freddie Freeman named World Series MVP
As expected, Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was named World Series MVP, and with good reason. The Dodgers' slugger was the hero during Game 1 with his Kirk Gibson-like grand slam in the 10th inning. Freeman went on to hit a homer in each of the first four games of the Fall Classic, and his two-run single in the fifth inning during Game 5 pulled the Dodgers within two and kept their rally alive.
Freeman's stat line during the five-game series is outstanding. The veteran first baseman, who's now a two-time World Series champion, hit .300 with four round-trippers, and a record-tying 12 RBI. Yankees' second baseman Booby Richardson, who was the previous record holder with 12 ribbies in 1960, now has to share that honor with Freeman.
Dodgers News: Shohei Ohtani celebrates his first World Series championship
Shohei Ohtani was not himself during the Fall Classic. The likely 2024 NL MVP was hampered by a shoulder injury during the latter-part of the series after suffering a partially dislocated shoulder while sliding into second base during Game 2. But that didn't stop the Dodgers' superstar from celebrating his first-ever World Championship.
Unlike other sports, winning a world championship in baseball isn't as critical to one's overall legacy, but it certainly doesn't hurt. Ohtani was stuck in neutral during his time with the Los Angeles Angels โ never even advancing to the playoffs. But Ohtani, who's universally regarded as the best player in the game, can now call himself a World Champion.
Dodgers News: World Series Parade details
The city of Los Angeles will be celebrating yet another championship. The Dodgers are on their way home from the Bronx and are ready to celebrate with the fans. The Dodgers will commemorate their eighth World Series title with a parade in downtown LA.
The parade will take place on Friday morning with a special ticketed event to follow at Dodger Stadium. The parade route will start at City Hall and travel down First Street to Grand Avenue before ending on Fifth Street. Get ready to celebrate, Dodgers fans. You've earned it.
