The Los Angeles Dodgers added some non-roster first base and outfield depth on Thursday, signing former Pittsburgh Pirates utility man Matt Gorski to a minor-league deal.

Gorski, 27, made his MLB debut with the Pirates earlier this season. He hit just .195/.214/.390 in a small sample size of 42 big-league plate appearances, but showcased some impressive power at the Triple-A level with 27 home runs dating back to the start of the 2024 season. He was designated for assignment earlier this month when the Pirates added Yohan Ramírez to their roster.

Gorski will presumably report to Triple-A Oklahoma City, though his current health status is unknown. He was transferred to the minor league 60-day injured list with an undisclosed injury on June 19 and hasn't played since. Regardless, this is a low-risk minor league signing for the Dodgers, especially considering Gorski still has options remaining in two future seasons if he does end up getting a 40-man roster spot.

Dodgers News: Former infielder Nick Ahmed announces retirement from pro baseball

Two-time Gold Glove winner Nick Ahmed, who spent a brief 17-game stint with the Dodgers in 2024, announced his retirement from professional baseball Thursday at the age of 35.

A second-round pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2011, Ahmed spent 10 seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks before splitting the 2024 campaign between the San Francisco Giants, Dodgers and San Diego Padres. He appeared in five games for the Texas Rangers this season before being designated for assignment and then outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock. He elected free agency in early May.

A Gold Glove winner in 2018 and 2019 while playing at shortstop for Arizona, Ahmed batted .233 with 72 home runs and 339 RBI in 964 career Major League games.

Dodgers News: Blake Treinen continues to look sharp in rehab assignment

Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen, who has been on the IL with a right forearm sprain since April, passed a critical test during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City this week when he pitched in consecutive games.

Treinen has made six total rehab appearances, giving up only one hit and one walk against nine strikeouts in six innings. Pitching on back-to-back days was the final box Treinen needed to check before being cleared to return to the Dodgers, so this latest milestone could mean his activation off of the IL is imminent.
