The Dodgers have some of the most highly-paid players in all of professional sports, but none of them would say no to a little (or a lot) extra for their World Series victory.
Full postseason shares were revealed this week. "All players and managers eligible for the World Series who were with the team or on an injured list from June 1 or later get a full share" worth $484,748 from a total $128.2 million pool, plus $340,000 from an additional $46.1 million.
The Dodgers shared $129.1 million last year, a record-breaking sum. The other 11 postseason teams were also award shares, with the value of full share for the runner-up Blue Jays amounting to $354,118.
Even Dodgers were surprised by Edwin Díaz signing
Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic wrote in a recent Dodgers mailbag that LA's Edwin Díaz signing was not only surprising to fans, but to people close to the team as well. The Dodgers, as expected, weren't willing to negotiate with Díaz if he was going to stand pat on a five-year deal, but Devin Williams' three-year signing led them to reenter talks, and the Mets being unwilling to match their offer let them work quickly.
The Dodgers will lose two draft picks to the Mets, their second and fifth, and $1 million worth of bonus pool money, but fans know that neither of those are real deterrents for a Dodgers front office that's willing to do whatever it takes to improve the team.
Dodgers star Mookie Betts opts out of World Baseball Classic
During an appearance on content creator Adin Ross' livestream, Mookie Betts confirmed that he won't be participating in next year's World Baseball Classic despite competing for Team USA in 2023. He's had nothing but effusive praise for the event in the past and confirmed that he initially expected to play, but his wife Brianna is pregnant, the baby's due date falls during the WBC, and "she’d divorce me if I wasn't there."
Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are expected to play for Team Japan again, but Roki Sasaki has been ruled out. Ohtani is not expected to pitch during the tournament. Hyeseong Kim has expressed real interest in playing for Team Korea but official word has yet to come down, and Freddie Freeman is likely a no for Team Canada as he addresses some minor health concerns.
Team USA is absolutely stacked with talent this time around — Tarik Skubal and Joe Ryan both joined Paul Skenes in the rotation, and the lineup will feature Aaron Judge as Captain America. Betts will be missed, but Team USA seems like it'll be just fine.
