Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Freddie Freeman has been sidelined for three straight games for reasons that many fans were hoping were merely precautionary after a so-called "mishap" in the shower that involved his surgically-repaired right ankle. Now, it looks like the Dodgers will be without their star first baseman for even longer.
The Dodgers placed Freeman on the 10-day injured list with an ankle injury on Thursday, retroactive to March 31. He has not appeared in a game for Los Angeles since March 29, when he recorded a pair of hits – including a home run – against the Detroit Tigers at Dodger Stadium.
Freeman's IL designation means he will be sidelined until at least April 10, the first date he is eligible to return. The first baseman already missed the Dodgers' two-game Tokyo Series due to left rib discomfort, an injury that plagued him during last year's World Series run, and he just missed the Dodgers' entire three-game series against his former team, the Atlanta Braves.
Freeman will now also miss the Dodgers' weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies, as well as next week's series against the Washington Nationals.

In addition to the rib issue, Freeman was also battling an ankle injury during the 2024 postseason. He didn't look any worse for the wear, hitting home runs in four consecutive games en route to earning World Series MVP honors, but he did have to undergo offseason surgery involving "debridement and the removal of loose bodies" in his right ankle.
Freeman was otherwise healthy until last Sunday, when he slipped in the shower and tweaked the surgically-repaired ankle, causing it to swell. He had been listed as day-to-day until being officially placed on the injured list Thursday.
The Dodgers, whose depth has already been tested early in 2025, have not yet announced a corresponding roster move to replace Freeman on their 26-man roster prior to Friday's game against the Phillies. Fortunately for the reigning World Series champs, they have managed to stay undefeated to start the season, even amid Freeman's absence.
