Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman certainly went through it during the postseason when it came to injuries. In addition to dealing with a very apparent ankle injury throughout the Dodgers' World Series run, it was revealed later that he was also dealing with broken rib cartilage as well at the same time.

We know how the story ended for Freeman and LA. Instead of faltering due to his battered body, Freeman thrived and ultimately hoisted the World Series MVP trophy after cracking four homers and driving in 12 runs in the Fall Classic as the driving force of the Dodgers win. It will go down as one of the best postseason performances in franchise history and he did it under circumstances that would have left most mere mortals laid up on the couch.

On Thursday, the scale of the ankle issues that Freeman was dealing with specifically came even more into focus as the Dodgers announced that Freeman had surgery on his ankle that did not sound simple, but shouldn't impact his 2025 season too much.

Freddie Freeman just had ankle surgery, but should be back for 2025

The bad news here is that any surgery that involves "debridement" of damanged tissue and removing things just floating around in a joint seems rough. Freeman played through a lot of pain to keep the Dodgers in it and if one needed any more proof, this is it. Those are words that generally seem unpleasant when describing something done to human anatomy.

The better news is that according to the Dodgers, Freeman should be ready to go by the time 2025 spring training gets started. All of this is contingent, of course, on Freeman not having any setbacks while recovering and rehabbing from the surgery, but it doesn't seem like there were any structural issues found during the surgery that would have likely required a longer downtime.

If there were any people out there that thought Freeman wasn't willing to leave it all out on the field, this whole injury saga likely put that too bed. There is no way to really know how Freeman will look when he returns next season as there are a lot of miles on that body of his at this point. That said, we wouldn't bet against him at this point because as he has shown already, he doesn't have to be at 100% to be the best player on the field.
