Dodgers Rumors: LA showing interest in Taiwanese pitcher Blue Jays already scouted

But is he also on a plane to Toronto?

With Roki Sasaki almost certainly heading back into a starting role in 2026, the Dodgers' rotation is full and overwhelmed with talent. Any of Sasaki, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani could be an undisputed ace on any other team.

And there are even more arms in reserve. Emmet Sheehan and Justin Wrobleski don't have clear-cut roles for 2026 yet, and Gavin Stone and River Ryan will be ready to go by spring training.

The Dodgers could convert one or all of them into bullpen arms in an effort to fix the worst part of their roster, but they also have their eyes on the likes of Devin Williams this offseason. They've also been connected to Edwin Díaz and Pete Fairbanks.

And, maybe, another Asian pitcher from a part of the continent the Dodgers have yet to fully stake a claim on. According to Taiwanese publication TSNA, the Dodgers are showing interested in 25-year-old pitcher Jo-Hsi Hsu of the Chinese Professional Baseball League's Wei Chuan Dragons. Other reports have suggested that Blue Jays, Phillies, Mets, and Giants scouts (among others) were in attendance during some of Hsu's starts this season, and a handful of NPB teams are also interested.

Hsu threw 114 innings for a 2.05 ERA this season but has struggled with injuries throughout his career and underwent Tommy John in 2022. Again, the Dodgers have no room for another starter, but FanGraphs, in a comprehensive scouting report on all of the Asian players who are or may be coming to MLB this offseason, wrote that he'd be a more effective reliever, specifically a set-up man.

They added, however, that Hsu could take a short-term deal in NPB to try to raise his profile as a starter before exploring MLB free agency.

More detailed (and verified) information on Hsu's offerings are a little hard to come by, but he is a member of Chinese Taipei's WBC team and is currently participating in qualifiers. He's thrown 3 2/3 innings so far and given up one run while striking out five.

Even if he doesn't come over to MLB this offseason, the WBC should be the perfect time for teams to get a look at him on a bigger stage. Teams always need relievers, so even if the Dodgers' situation isn't as dire next year (and let's hope it isn't), they could still revisit their interest in Hsu.
