The Los Angeles Dodgers don't need much in the way of upgrades this offseason. After all, the Dodgers are now back-to-back World Champions, have the best player on the planet, and arguably one of the best starting rotations in the league. What more could they possibly want?
Well, if you're to believe the latest Dodgers rumors, Andrew Friedman and LA's front office have their eyes fixed on Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers. According to MLB beat reporter Brian McTaggart, the Dodgers are one of several teams who've shown interest in the Astros centerfielder.
Along with the Dodgers, the Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, and Kansas City Royals have also expressed interest in trading for Meyers this winter. The Astros are said to be seeking a young, controllable starting pitcher in return, and that type of exchange is definitely something the Dodgers could match.
Dodgers Rumors: LA linked to Astros outfielder Jake Meyers
Despite being sidelined for nearly two months due to a severe calf strain, Meyers posted the best numbers of his career in 2025. Typically a light-hitting outfielder who's known more for his glove than his bat, Meyers posted a .292/.354/.373 slash line with a 107 wRC+. During his previous four seasons with the Astros, Meyers only managed to hit a paltry .228/.292/.371 with an 86 wRC+.
While many will question whether or not his breakout is sustainable, there's no denying Meyers' defensive upside. Though he's yet to win a Gold Glove in the outfield, he's more than capable of playing elite defense at one of the most demanding positions on the field. Throughout his career, Meyers has accounted for 23 defensive runs saved (DRS) and 41 outs above average (OAA). That type of defense would look good in any outfield.
With Tommy Edman's lingering injury likely limiting his ability to play the outfield in 2026, Los Angeles is looking for outfield depth, and Meyers would certainly provide that. If the season started today, Andy Pages would likely be the Dodgers centerfielder, but the numbers suggest he's better suited for the corners, so adding Meyers could (in theory) help bolster the team's outfield defense.
If Friedman dangled a trade package centered around starting pitcher Emmet Sheehan, it could be enough to strike up some conversations between the Dodgers and Astros at this week's Winter Meetings in Orlando.
