The trade deadline is still a few weeks away, but it does feel like momentum is building for some deals to start getting done. The Los Angeles Dodgers are among the teams that already know what they are going to need for the most part, and now is the time for getting some minor moves done and to lay the groundwork for future trades.
One such minor move came on Wednesday as the Dodgers traded outfielder Steward Berroa to the Brewers for cash considerations. Immediately after the trade, Berroa was put on the injured list with bursitis in his shoulder, which has been causing him issues for several weeks.
Dodgers strike minor deal to send Steward Berroa to Milwaukee right before teams square off
The Brewers and Dodgers made a trade prior to this afternoon’s tilt:

OF Steward Berroa acquired from the Dodgers in exchange for cash. Berroa optioned to Nashville and placed on their IL with right shoulder bursitis.
RHP Elvin Rodríguez designated for assignment.
Overall, this is a very minor deal. The Dodgers are banged up and need depth, but Berroa was already unavailable and wasn't going to factor into their short-term plans anyway.
While there have been a few times in baseball history where two teams that were playing each other on a given day struck a trade and the player(s) had to run across the field and change uniforms, this wasn't quite that. The Dodgers had traded cash for Berroa themselves back in May, but he hasn't played in the minors at all since the middle of June and was designated for assignment by LA about a week ago.
For Milwaukee, this is a low-cost move that allows them to stockpile some outfield depth in the minor leagues for the stretch run without restricting their ability to make other moves once we get into peak trade season. The Dodgers get a little bit of cash to take some of the luxury tax sting out of the season and clear up their minor league outfield situation a bit.
All in all, this is a move that create minor flexibility for LA as we can expect them to make multiple headline-grabbing moves before the end of the month.
