Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow roster move just caught Dave Roberts in a lie

Despite posting an 8.31 ERA in during his rehab assignment, Tyler Glasnow's return to the Dodgers on Wednesday was still something of a relief. LA's pitching staff has been battered and bruised all season, but the return of one of their four starters on the IL at least showed some signs of life.

Fans already knew that Glasnow would be coming back on Wednesday, but there was the question of who would have to be sacrificed from the roster in order to fit him. If we'd placed bets on who would get the chop, they probably would have overwhelmingly been on Will Klein, a familiar seesaw bullpen arm.

Just an hour before their series finale against the Brewers, the Dodgers officially reactivated Glasnow and sent Alexis Díaz back down (before he threw a single pitch in a Dodgers uniform). That settled up the question of the 26-man spot. But then the Dodgers dropped the bomb: Michael Kopech will go back onto the 60-day IL for the second time this season, just a day after Dave Roberts said of Kopech's knee issue, "I don’t think it will be a long-term situation."

Dodgers welcomed back Tyler Glasnow after two-month absence, but moved Michael Kopech to 60-day IL

Kopech initially went onto the 15-day IL on June 28, after pitching just seven innings after coming off of the 60-day IL, where he started the season. He was initially dealing with a shoulder impingement, but his second stint was due to a totally separate knee issue. Roberts had said that Kopech received a pain-killing injection and said that the IL move was mostly precautionary. Ha, ha.

At this point, Dodgers fans usually take Roberts' injury updates with a grain of salt, as he's either walked back comments or been proven to be completely incorrect even hours after his initial claims. At one point, he and Glasnow even disagreed on the extent of Glasnow's pain.

Glasnow's returns from the minors are far from promising, but the Dodgers just have to hope that he'll be able to take some pressure off of the bullpen, especially now that Kopech is down for the count again. They'll look to snap a five-game losing skid on Wednesday afternoon against the Brewers with Glasnow on the mound, but even with Glasnow's return, the Kopech move was another painful reminder of how the Dodgers only seem to be hanging on by a thread.
