The Los Angeles Dodgers head out on the road this weekend and immediately have a tough task in front of them with a weekend matchup with the Braves. The Dodgers swept Atlanta at the very start of the 2025 season, but that was in LA and the Braves are playing a lot better now and are always tough at home. Unfortunately, the opening game of the series between these two juggernauts is on pause due to the weather.
While the game did start on time, the specter of a massive wave of rain coming through was always there and the hope was that the game could conclude before it got to Atlanta. That is not how things went down and now we are in a rain delay against the Braves with just one inning to go.
Dodgers vs. Braves Rain Delay, 5/2: Here is when the game should resume (if at all)
It looked like this game was moving along at a brisk enough pace that it could finish before the rain arrived, but they couldn't quite beat it. The problem now is that this is a massive front coming through that is crawling along and is going to dump a bunch of rain. The odds that this game gets the chance to go the full nine innings tonight are very low as a result.
It is a shame because before the delay, these two teams were locked in a really great game. Yoshinobu Yamamoto completely shut Atlanta down and Mookie Betts hit a solo shot that had been in the difference in the game so far. The Braves got back into the game late with a solo homer from Matt Olson and the ninth inning appeared to be one that would be filled with drama.
Instead, we have to wait and hope the weather passes with a chance that they just call the game in the Dodgers' favor if the forecast is bad enough. We will update this post as information on the delay and when the game will restart becomes available.
