The Los Angeles Dodgers are cycling through fresh bullpen arms at a rather alarming rate this year, and J.P. Feyereisen is the latest to be cast off the proverbial trash heap.
The Dodgers designated Feyereisen for assignment on Sunday to make room on the 40-man roster for – you guessed it, another bullpen arm – right-hander Chris Stratton, who signed with Los Angeles after getting released from the Kansas City Royals last Thursday.
As a member of the Dodgers in 2024, Feyereisen went 0-1 with an 8.18 ERA in 10 appearances spread across multiple big league stints. He spent the majority of last season at Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he was 2-6 with a 5.48 ERA in 33 games (six starts).
Feyereisen became a free agent during the offseason and signed a minor-league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who designated him for assignment in April after he allowed two runs over two innings pitched across two games. The Dodgers picked him up off waivers on May 1, and he has since appeared in two games in two major league call-ups this month.
Feyereisen's second stint with the Dodgers was as forgettable as his first. In his two appearances in 2025, he allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits in two innings, with two strikeouts. All told, he is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in 13 innings across 12 games for the Dodgers over the last two seasons.
Dodgers DFA JP Feyereisen to make room for Chris Stratton in bullpen shuffle
Stratton takes Feyereisen's place on the Dodgers' roster after posting a 7.94 ERA (4.74 xERA) in 12 relief appearances for Kansas City, including 16 strikeouts and eight walks in 17 innings pitched. He last pitched for the Royals on May 16.
The 34-year-old right-hander is in his 10th MLB season and the Dodgers are his seventh team. In addition to the Royals, Stratton has also had stints with the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers.
Stratton has yet to make an appearance for the Dodgers, but when he does, he’ll be the 28th different pitcher used by Los Angeles this season. That’s more than any other team in the majors, with the last-place Baltimore Orioles in second place with 26 pitchers used.
