Keith Law just killed any Dodgers hater's argument about LA 'ruining baseball'

No, the Dodgers are just good at the whole 'building a pipeline' thing.

If Los Angeles Dodgers fans had a dollar for every time they've had to explain why the "Dodgers are ruining baseball" argument isn't based in logic, they'd be, well, the Dodgers. Sure, the Dodgers have turned heads when it comes to their spending in free agency, but that isn't the only crutch holding up their dynasty.

Where Andrew Friedman and Co. have truly thrived is keeping their farm system stocked with the one of the best groups of prospects in all of baseball.

In many ways, it's become a lost art. Player development is an important part of any organization. Naturally, a team like the Milwaukee Brewers are who many point to as masters of player development. The Brewers' success at the top of the National League Central has largely been tied to drafting, identifying the right prospects in trade talks, and player development.

One of the reasons why the Brewers are the model organization for player development is that they are a small-market team. They don't have the luxury of spending to overcome the shortcomings of their organization.

That being said, just because the Dodgers have money, they shouldn't be overlooked when it comes to player development. That is one of the primary reasons why they aren't ruining baseball. Los Angeles has mastered contract structure in free agency, but they are equally successful when it comes to scouting, drafting, and player development.

What naysayers continue to neglect is that they have one of the best farm systems in all of baseball. The Athletic's Keith Law (subscription required) was the latest to point that out with his ranking of the Dodgers' system. Only the Brewers' system had a better ranking.

Lost in the Dodgers' spending is that they are constantly refreshing the farm system to ensure that they have talented prospects at their disposal, either to serve as reinforcements for the major league roster or trade chips. One of the best examples of that is when Los Angeles landed Zyhir Hope and Jackson Ferris in the Michael Busch trade with the Chicago Cubs before the 2024 season.

Busch was a talented but blocked prospect, and the Dodgers turned him into two top 100 prospects, with Hope being viewed as one of the best prospects in all of baseball. For every signing of someone like Kyle Tucker, the Dodgers have a hidden trade like the one with the Cubs.

Those are the moves that hardly get talked about but are the clear reason why the Dodgers are just better at baseball than most teams.
