The Los Angeles Dodgers had a shaky bullpen in the 2025 MLB Playoffs, so president of baseball operations, Andrew Friedman, did the most reasonable thing he could do: sign the best closer on the market, Edwin Diaz.
Dodgers fans are understandably excited over landing one of the best closers in the entire sport, who inked a three-year, $69 million deal with the club. Those in the Dodgers clubhouse have to be excited as well as Diaz will, hopefully, remedy the blown saves that became an epidemic for the Boys in Blue in 2025.
Heck, even those not currently signed to the Dodgers are excited about the move. Fan-favorite Kiké Hernandez, who is currently a free agent and is recovering from offseason UCL surgery, had quite the reaction to the Diaz signing. Hernandez's message on his Instagram story was short and to the point.
"F AROUND AND FIND OUT!!!"
Kiké Hernandez makes it even clearer he wants to return to the Dodgers with Edwin Diaz reaction
Hernandez has always had his pulse on the fanbase and has resonated as a fan favorite as a result. He knows the bad press the Dodgers are getting for doing their job in building the best baseball team possible and much like the fans, he doesn't care. Assemble the Avengers. Hernandez just wants to be a part of it.
While Hernandez could theoretically leave the club this offseason, his continued offseason remarks have made it pretty clear where his heart lies. Hernandez has mentioned the possibility of a three-peat multiple times, indicating that he wants to run it back with the Dodgers.
Hernandez's excitement over the Dodgers signing Diaz, when he technically isn't even employed by the Dodgers, does all the talking. Normally, a free agent wouldn't show his cards in this manner to keep leverage in contract talks with other teams. It doesn't seem like Hernandez cares much about leverage; he just cares about the Dodgers building a super team.
It doesn't stop there, either. Prior to signing one-year contracts in each of the last two years, Hernandez changed his profile picture on Instagram to him wearing a question mark hat. He did the same thing in the 2021 offseason before he signed with the Red Sox.
Hernandez's profile picture right now? Him in Dodgers gear with the World Series trophy.
Hernandez isn't just echoing the Dodgers fanbase with his warning to the rest of the league after the Diaz signing; he's making it abundantly clear that he wants to return to the ball club in 2026. And due to his immense value as an October performer and a versatile utility man, it's hard to imagine the Dodgers not honoring that wish.
