Kyle Tucker breaking Dodgers HR drought vs Mets couldn't have been funnier

Stop the presses, it finally happened. Kyle Tucker has homered for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Tucker's tenure with the Dodgers has been a disaster no matter how you look at it, and it's made worse by the reality that he's costing LA over $100 million this season alone. But misery is nothing without a few moments of comedic relief, and we have the New York Mets to thank for that.

The Dodgers' etched out a 4-3 win over the Mets on Saturday night, and the biggest difference was Tucker. Tucker's two-run homer in the eighth inning proved to be just enough insurance for LA, considering Edgardo Henriquez was touched up for two runs in the bottom-half of that inning.

For Tucker, the homer marked his second in consecutive days and is hope, as misguided as it may be, that better times are ahead. Before this weekend, Tucker's last home run with the Dodgers was on June 27. And yet, even with those home runs under his belt, Tucker's OPS+ still sits at 100 for the month of July. In other words, not quite the production of someone holding a contract that's destined to uproot the system next winter.

Tucker remains a potential burden for the Dodgers, but in times like these, we must always remember the sacred rule: find a way to laugh at the Mets.

It was the Mets who the Dodgers beat out during the offseason in landing Tucker. The whiff on Tucker forced New York to quickly pivot in the direction of Bo Bichette. While Bichette's struggles this season have certainly added to the Mets' woes this season, chances are they've been exhaling over the past few months over the fact that they didn't have Tucker's albatross of a contract on their books.

But, the Mets are destined to have nice things this season, which is why Tucker's home-run surge over the past couple of days is the perfect comedic relief for Dodgers fans when thinking about the veteran outfielder's presence with the team. The true chef's kiss would be the Mets being the team to get Tucker back on track for good, and then the Dodgers are off to the races. But that's getting a little too far ahead of ourselves.

For now, Mets fans are miserable, Tucker has a part to play in that, and that's just about all that Dodgers fans could have hoped for this weekend.
