Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow hasn't pitched in over a month. At this rate, it's still unclear when he'll pitch again.
Per a report from Alden González of ESPN, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Glasnow's body is "not responding" to his injury rehab for shoulder inflammation. As a result, the right-hander will take a step back in his progression and go back to playing catch on flat ground.
Glasnow, who was recently transferred to the 60-day injured list with continued shoulder inflammation, threw a bullpen session on May 23 that reportedly did not go well. Roberts and the team don't know at this point when he will be able to throw off a mound again.
"I say this speaking for him, I know he's just as frustrated as we all are, as far as the process over the last, since we've had him," Roberts said (via Sonja Chen of MLB.com). "It just hasn't been linear as far as getting him back, and he wants to get back and help. Threw his one 'pen and then [his] body didn't respond, and so we're trying to figure out when we can ramp him back up."
Latest Tyler Glasnow injury update is almost depressingly predictable for Dodgers
The Dodgers have remained maddeningly vague when it comes to disclosing the exact nature of Glasnow's injury, claiming that the ailment is not confined to just his shoulder. Needless to say, this has led to plenty of confusion and frustration as far as a potential return timeline for Glasnow and where the club goes from here.
Glasnow is one of 15 Dodgers pitchers currently on the IL, including fellow starters Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki. He is eligible to be activated off the IL on June 27, though this latest update makes it seem inevitable that his return will be delayed even further.
At a certain point, you would think that someone would look at the Dodgers and their robust history of pitching injuries and be at least mildly alarmed at the number of pitchers they run into the ground. In the meantime, though, it appears that the club will continue spending on free agents and picking up whatever is available on the proverbial trash heap to help them stay afloat atop the National League West.
